Recognition for Kevin Fields flair and ability is being acknowledged in ever-increasing circles - he is very much in demand as an exponent of new music and Kevins involvement with ACOF marks the start of a busy season with regard new music. As Associate Conductor with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) Kevin is director of Asias leading new music series, performing and commissioning over 50 works in recent seasons to capacity audiences in the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS in Kuala Lumpur. In 1994 Kevin established Kokoro - the contemporary music ensemble of the Bournemouth Orchestras which has rapidly developed into one of the key music ensembles in the UK with over 30 performances a season. With Kokoro, Kevin appeared at the Cheltenham International Music Festival with Peter Donohoe performing Bergs Kammerkonzert and has commissioned new works for the group from composers Eleanor Alberga, Piers Hellawell, Colin Riley and Stephen Montague. Born in Berkshire, England, Kevin became interested in music at the age of 11 playing percussion. His studies took him to the Royal Academy of Music London and the St. Petersburg Conservatoire. In 1990 he became sub-principal percussionist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in the UK with whom he frequently toured Europe and America and recorded over 50 CDs. Kevin made his debut with the MPO in April 1999 standing in at short notice for Andrew Litton in a performance that included, Coplands Appalachian Spring and Rachmaninovs Symphonic Dances and this season conducts the orchestra in works by Zimmerman, Schoenberg, Kats-Chernin, Wolfe and Matsushitu to name but a few. In May 2002 he conducts the combined forces of the BBC Symphony Orchestra together with the MPO in a concert that will also feature works for gamelan and include music from the likes of Zappa, Adams, Rouse and Turnage. Kevin has broadcast for radio with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and conducted the Bournemouth Symphony & Sinfonietta in the UK. The ACOF project marks his second appearance with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. |
