The International Society for Contemporary Music in conjunction with the Asian Composers League will host a huge 10-day event in Hong Kong from 23 November to 2 December 2007. They will showcase over 150 compositions from over 50 countries across 24 concerts. In addition, the festival will present educational seminars and symposiums.
‘Music and Beyond’ is the theme for the 2007 ISCM - ACL World Music Days Festival. As such, the festival aims to celebrate the goodness in humanity; to contribute to appreciation and understanding of all people despite the atrocities and terror that we currently reside with. Consequently, organisers are seeking works that aim to communicate – especially by exploring reconciliation between different cultures. The theme particularly refers to the balance between globalisation and localisation. How does music function in a globalised world that continuously threatens cultural identity? The organisers emphasise the importance of music that goes beyond its own values, putting aside discrimination for a harmonious world.
Submission to the Australian National Section - for consideration as part of the national submission - must be received at the Australian Music Centre by close of business on Friday 28 April, 2006.
Composers may alternatively submit works directly to the ISCM Hong Kong section by 31 May 2006, accompanied by a fee of EUR 50.
