Program Notes: Owls
Owls is the third movement of Night Frames; a setting of three four-line poems by Brisbane poet, Ross Clark. In order for each setting to be of a substantial length, I decided to “frame” each movement with an “intro” and “outro”. These “frames” are different for each movement, but are similar or identical within the individual movements. Discerning the text of owls is not of central importance; the text is used as a vehicle to create a web of sound.
