Program Notes: The Poet

The Poet, entitled Simplex, Simplicior, Simplicissimuss by Judith Wright, presents for me the journey of the creative individual and in particular the plight of the creative soul to maintain its identity amongst societal restrictions. This couldn't be more pertinent than under today's Government. The Poet, although seemingly 'simple' in action, is far from it: in the same way that the 'simple' daisy is a complex and intricate artform in being the externalisation of the life force of nature. In this piece I have attempted to reflect this energy and its depiction. This work is dedicated to Jan.
