Program Notes: Tears of Two
Tears of Two is a piece based upon a sonnet by the English poet, Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Taken from her collection, 'Sonnets from the Portuguese', this poem talks of her devotion to a male persona, presumably Robert Browning. In its powerful climax, the speaker claims that even before God, the two lovers appear as one. Musically, the piece tries to capture this growing passion in the text.
