MODART is a professional development project that provides opportunities for emerging composers to develop works for vocal ensemble, and which then receive public performance by The Song Company.
Jack Ellis studied composition at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Michael Smetanin, Trevor Pearce and Bozidar Kos. He then travelled to Holland and studied with Martijn Padding at the Royal Conservatorium in The Hague. This is his first work for unaccompanied voices.
This piece is about militarism and the myth of freedom. It is dedicated to Martijn Padding. Thanks to The Ian Potter Foundation for their support.
