MODART is a professional development project that provides opportunities for emerging composers to develop works for vocal ensemble, and which then receive public performance by The Song Company.
Ever intent on fostering and developing new creative ways to approach vocal writing and encourage contemporary debate on text/music symbiosis, The Song Company invited seven young composers to write a short work for a cappella ensemble (two to six voices), one of whom was from New Zealand.
The composers over a week with the company in Sydney during the second half of September, and the performance of the resulting works took place on Saturday 29 September at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
As in the successful MODART03 and MODART05 projects, the composers had the opportunity to work closely with the singers and director of The Song Company during the process. Many other projects have already ensued from the MODART series and some ongoing collaboration has been forged.
