"Rebecca Harrison's The Humble-Bee is a fairly straight-forward work, involving a good deal of humming in bee-buzz-like fashion".

Burly dozing humble bee,
Where you are is clime for me.
Let them sail for Porto Rique,
Far-off heats through seas to seek,
I will follow alone,
You animated torrid zone!
Hear it drone!
Zigzag steerer, desert cheerer,
Let me chase your waving line;
Come nearer,
Keep me nearer,
Me your hearer,
Singing over shrub and vine.
Insect lover of the sun,
Joy of your dominion!
Sailor of the atmosphere;
Swimmer through waves of air;
Voyager of light and noon;
Epicurean, this voyager of June;
Wait, I pray, until I come
Within earshot of your hum.
(Ralph Waldo Emerson 1803-1882)
