MODART is a professional development project that provides opportunities for emerging composers to develop works for vocal ensemble, and which then receive public performance by The Song Company.
While composing this piece I was struck by the view of the numinous and sublime presented by the Victoria fragments I used as its source material. Across hundreds of years I found a point of connection to the sacred culture of my European ancestors lost due to a contemporary focus on the church’s activities, past and present. This sense of reconciliation was mirrored by my use of the techniques and processes of (popular) electronic dance music production to create this (classical) contemporary sacred music, a method which has defined my aesthetic.
