The Australian Music Centre's facsimile score service plays a crucial role in the dissemination of music by Australian composers. The Centre holds more than 12,500 works by over 450 Australian composers.
The Centre's facimile production service enables the reproduction of around 80% of items in the library collection, with the remainder available through other commercial publishers.
By taking out licences with represented composers to reproduce their unpublished works, the Centre is able to make their scores available for sale nationally and internationally. The representation process involves the assessment of applicants' works by a panel of peer composers and accepted composers are then able to lodge works for inclusion in the Centre's collection.
The Centre is registered with the National Library of Australia, and is supplied with ISMNs (International Standard Music Number) by the NLA to assign to the scores that the Centre is licensed to reproduce. Works held at the Centre by represented composers who hold positions at tertiary institutions are recognised by the institution as research.
